Nobody knows what their pet costs

Ask a dog owner what they spend in a year: the answer is almost always a low estimate. The big items stay in mind — an operation, a long course of treatment. The small ones do not: the box of wormer, the check-up, the repeat prescription, the insurance taken every month.

Added up, those are what make most of the annual bill.

What the health budget does

• Spending by category — consultation, vaccine, treatment, food, insurance, other.
• Recurring costs: monthly insurance is entered once and carries itself forward. Mark it paid and it reschedules.
• Amounts attached to their invoice: when you add a document (a scanned bill), its amount joins the budget. The receipt and the accounting line do not live in two different places.
• Readable charts: a pie by category, bars month by month.
• CSV export, for anyone who wants to go further in a spreadsheet — or to hand something to an insurer.

All of it per pet: in a two-pet household you can see immediately which costs what, without doing the sums in your head.

What it reveals

The uses we see come back to three:

1. Deciding on insurance. Comparing an annual premium with what you actually spent over the previous two years is no longer a bet: it is a subtraction.
2. Spotting a drift. Three consultations for the same complaint in six months show up on a chart long before they show up in memory.
3. Setting money aside. Knowing what a dog costs in your household lets you provision the right amount.

Free, and that is not a detail

The health budget is entirely free, with no cap, CSV export included. That is a deliberate choice: in this market, expense tracking is nearly always reserved for the subscription, when it exists at all. The number one complaint about apps in this field is that "everything ends up paid for". Giving this away is our way of answering with something other than a promise.
